BEN-GVIR CALLS FOR CONQUER AQSA COMPOUND ON “JERUSALEM DAY”

Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Wednesday that “”his policy”” is that Jews should be allowed to pray on the Temple Mount/Al Aqsa mosque compound.
This is the first time that the minister responsible for security on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount/Al Aqsa mosque compound publicly deviated from the site’s prevailing status quo, which prohibits Jews from praying there.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a response shortly after Ben-Gvir made his remarks, saying that “”the status quo regarding the Temple Mount has not and will not change.””
In an interview on Galei Israel radio to mark Jerusalem Day, the far-right national security minister said that he was “”pleased that Jews went to the Temple Mount and prayed there today. This is very important. My policy is very clear on this matter – Jews can go everywhere in Jerusalem and pray anywhere, and not silently. Jews prayed on the Temple Mount, that is the minister’s policy. Jews prayed on the Temple Mount, and that is good.””
In the evening, he reiterated his remarks at the Old City’s Damascus Gate. “”I came back here to send a message to Hamas and every house in Gaza and the north … Jerusalem is ours. Damascus Gate is ours. The Temple Mount is ours. Today, per my policy, Jews freely entered the Old City, and Jews freely prayed on the Temple Mount. We say this as simply as we can: it’s ours.””
