U.S. AIRMAN SPEAKS UP AFTER DEFECTING FROM MILITARY
June 26, 2024Larry Hebert, an active duty US airman, is trying to be declared a “conscientious objector” and discharged from the US military over its continuing support for Israel’s war on Gaza.
“There’s no serving the American people in our current policies.”
Hebert asked for leave in mid-March and has been outwardly opposing the US role in Israel’s genocide. In April, he staged a hunger strike at the White House, inspired by the actions of Aaron Bushnell. He continues to call on MORE service members to ‘conscientiously object’ and RAISE AWARENESS THAT THIS IS AN OPTION!

Larry Hebert: It honestly wasn’t a difficult decision. Me joining the military in the first place was, partially due to…I mean, all of us, we want to serve people. There’s no, there’s no serving the American people in our current policies. We’re doing a disservice to people around the world. And I strongly feel that, I think a lot of people may try to avoid looking, but I can’t. I feel like I can’t do that as a father and as a service member. To see children that look just like my own dead and maimed. Another major reason for it was the self-immolation of Aaron Bushnell.
Aaron Bushnell: I will no longer be complicit in genocide.
Larry Hebert: And the silence afterwards of our leadership, in the military and in the government. Nobody would even speak his name. I think most people, they can agree that what is going on is wrong. In almost every way. But, to speak on it while in service is basically taboo because you’d be speaking against US policy. And so I think a lot of people are afraid to even touch the topic. But I think it’s extremely important to highlight conscientious objector and, and show that it is an option. It was a very easy decision to come to this conclusion and oppose what’s going on.
