English Script:
Tim Watts: I move that this House endorses the government’s position to support the recognition of the State of Palestine as part of a peace process and in support of a two state solution, and a just and enduring peace.
Max Chandler-Mather: I mean, this motion is a joke. It is a joke as part of a peace process. What peace process? Israel is carrying out a genocide. Israel is carrying out a genocide in Gaza. It’s not a peace process. Why is it that 146 countries could find it within their hearts to recognize Palestine right now? Why is it that the Australian government refuses? And how is it that when the labor Senator, Senator Peyman, who had the principles and the courage to cross the floor to vote with the Greens, to immediately recognize Palestine, why is it that Senator Peyman faced more sanctions than labor has dished out against Israel?
Fatima Peyman: Unlike my colleagues, I know how it feels to be on the receiving end of injustice. When history looks back, it must see that we stood on the right side of humanity, even when it was difficult. Sadly, I do not believe our principles align with those of the leadership of the Labor Party. With a heavy heart but a clear conscience, I announce my resignation from the Australian Labor Party.
