Shlomo Sand: I remember going to the Tel Aviv Library, or University Library, looking for books about the act of Exile of the Jews from Palestine. A lot of you till now believe in it. No? The idea, a myth about the exile of the Jews from Judea, there is not even one historical book about it. The exile didn’t happen. During the 2000 years, Jews didn’t want to come to the Holy Land. It was forbidden from the religious point of view. Do you know it? Jews couldn’t come collectively to Palestine, to the Holy Land because it was anti-Jewish. This is the reason that in the end of the 19th century, when the Zionism started to be active, all the Jewish establishment, Orthodox, Reformist, Conservatives were against Zionism. Why? Because the basic concept of Jews in all the 2000 years was, first of all, the land doesn’t belong to Jews. The land belongs to God. God gave, God took away. And when the Messiah will come, all the Jews with all their people will return to the Holy Land. But till this day, till this minute, Jews cannot come and emigrate to the Holy Land. It’s anti-Jewish to build the Jewish state.
