As Guy Christensen reveals, the so-called “legal basis” for Israel’s founding was nothing more than a calculated campaign of colonization and ethnic cleansing of historic Palestine. The Nakba of 1948 saw over 750,000 Palestinians forcibly removed from their homes, their land stolen to create a new state that has continued to oppress and displace Palestinians to this day.
How can a citizenship test ask for allegiance to a regime built on the suffering of an entire people?

Guy Christensen: If you want to become a German citizen now you have to say that Israel has the right to exist, on Germany’s new citizenship test. They just updated it with 12 new questions about Judaism and Israel. Anyone who wants to become a citizen now has to answer questions like, in what year was the State of Israel founded? Or on what legal basis was the State of Israel founded? There is no legal basis for the founding of Israel. Israel was founded through the deliberate colonization of historic Palestine. Zionist settlers spent a few decades amassing power, bringing in more settlers, and once their population had reached critical mass, they trained up Zionist paramilitary forces and ethnically cleansed historic Palestine. That was called the Nakba of 1948, over 750,000 Palestinians were displaced from the land they lived on for centuries. Guess what the Zionists did with the land that they had just ethnically cleansed, or they claimed it as their own, as the new state of Israel, and they never let the Palestinians return back. So that is the so-called “legal basis” of the founding of Israel, a deliberate scheme to colonize historic Palestine and eventually clear the land of natives to make room for Israel. And this was always the plan for Zionism from the very beginning. The founder of Zionism, a man named Theodor Herzl, wrote about it in his diary how they were going to “expropriate” the land from the natives, and then spirit away the “penniless population”. He’s referring to the Palestinians and the fact that from the beginning they needed them gone. Spirited away is just a nice way to say ethnically cleansed. You might hear things like the “Nakba never ended” talking about the fact that Israel never stopped ethnically cleansing places like the West Bank and never stopped oppressing the Palestinians because Israel, because Zionism needs to keep them down, to stay legitimized, because it’s their land that they’re living on.
