But now, they’re backtracking, saying it was “unauthorised”.
The leaflets, distributed by a military drone, were aimed at an area in southern Lebanon from which rockets had been launched into Israel in recent days.
“”All residents… Hezbollah is firing from your area,” the leaflet, bearing an IDF logo, read. “You must leave your homes and move north,” it continued, “and not return to this area until the war is over.”
Similar evacuation leaflets are sometimes dropped by the army in Gaza warning residents to evacuate certain areas. Following the missile attack by Yemen’s Houthis on Sunday, they published an announcement warning residents of Tel Aviv in central Israel that the area is an active war zone and urging them to evacuate to the “humanitarian zone” in the Negev desert, modeled on leaflets dropped by the IDF.
