David Shoebridge: We’ve seen over more than 12 months now, this horrific wave of violence, first across Gaza, spills over into the West Bank. And now this wave, the same wave of violence sweeping through Lebanon and when it’s part of this continuation of the violence we’ve seen against Gaza and the appalling destruction in Gaza, millions of people de-housed, tens of thousands of civilians killed and to see this wave now striking through Lebanon. And I know that many people in the diaspora come to my office and said, you know, where are the politicians speaking for Lebanon? And, where is the very clear statement from our government to say to Israel, end the bombing and the killing in Lebanon and end it now, where is that clear statement from our government? Because I know that statement is coming from the people of Australia, and I know it’s coming from millions of Australians. And I want to say to the Lebanese Australian community, you are so far from alone in this struggle. Millions and millions of Australians are with you, and your government should be with you and should be with us as well. The question is, what can the Australian Government do? Well, there’s some pretty bloody simple things that could do. It could end the two-way arms trade with Israel and stopping any part of the weapons, and it could do that today.
