Critical Analysis: Israel will officially kill off the two-state solution in 2025, and the world needs to know what’s about to happen. Again, I will try to keep this explainer as simple and concise as possible, but this is extremely important. So just bear with me and listen all the way through. The Israeli finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has recently said that he has ordered preparations to annex the West Bank, the occupied West Bank in 2025. In other words, Israel is formalizing its land grab of the remaining Palestinian territory, meaning that any prospect of an independent Palestinian state under the two-state solution will be officially gone. For some context, the two-solution was a peace plan, which envisioned a Palestinian state that would be made up of the West Bank and Gaza, and this state was to live independently alongside Israel in peace and security. This was a plan and solution in which most of the world and the international community backed and agreed upon as a solution to the long-standing conflict. Even Israel and the Palestinians agreed to this plan when they signed the Oslo Peace Accords back in the 1990s, but since then, Israel has continued to demolish Palestinian homes and build settlements in the occupied West Bank, something which is illegal under international law. This was widely viewed as a way for Israel to slowly kill off any viability of an independent Palestinian state by using these settlements to carve up housing in land into disconnected bits and pieces, and create what they call new facts on the ground. Now, most countries in the world objected to the illegal settlements, calling them an obstacle to peace. However, Israel continued to do so and were never made to stop because they were protected by the US on all fronts. Now, with the new Trump administration coming in 2025, many of whom have direct financial ties to an experiment and had actively annexation, Israel can finally complete its land grab once and for all. In essence, this announcement of annexation has just exposed what many of us knew all along that Israel never had any intention or interest in having a peace with the Palestinians. The only interest they had was with their land. In terms of what’s next, it is unlikely that anyone will do anything to stop the annexation of the West Bank. Many will say they protest or condemn the annexation, but as usual, they will do nothing to hold Israel to account. Instead, and this is important. I expect that to be even more conflict. It is unlikely that the Palestinians will sit down quietly while their homes and land are being stolen. It is more likely that they will take upon precedent again in the West Bank. And if this happens, it is likely that in 2025 you will see an Israeli invasion of the occupied West Bank. The world needs to know what’s about to happen in the West Bank. However, it’s being brushed under the carpet once again by Western governments. If we allow this to happen, then the violence against Palestinians will be locked in for generations to come.
