ICJ Judge Nawaf Salam Appointed as Lebanon’s New Prime Minister
January 13, 2025
Lebanon turned a new page in its history today when the newly-elected President, Joseph Aoun, and a majority og political parties and members of parliament voted to elect Nawaf Salam, the President of the International Court of Justice as the new Prime Minister of Lebanon.
Salam represents a clean, uncorrupted, new beginning for Lebanon and alongside President Aoun, will herald a new era of accountability, law and order for a country and its people who have been desperate to shake free from the shackles of militias, corruption and collusion.
This is a good day for Lebanon.
The remarkable turn in events today followed the overnight withdrawals of two candidates that had thrown their hat in the rink, Lebanese billionaire, Fouad Makhzoumi, and Change MP, Ibrahim Mneimneh, who pulled out of the race to increase the chances of Salam defeating the incumbent, Najib Mikati.
Salam is the candidate that many Lebanese people, at home and abroad, were barracking for as he, along with President Aoun, represent the best chance of reshaping Lebanon’s destiny without allegiance to any political party, sect or foreign master.
