Omar Rahman: Biden will be remembered as the American president who oversaw the genocide of Gaza. As the man who likely accelerated the decline in American power and influence abroad, as the president who irreparably broke the international system that the US was instrumental in creating, and the man who lost the white House to Donald Trump. What’s happening in Gaza is absolute genocide, borne out by the fact, borne out by the statements by Israeli leaders, the intension that those have shown since October 7th, Biden is 100% complicit in that because he has aided Israel every step along the way. He’s provided the weapons, he’s provided the financing, provided the military cover, the diplomatic cover, the political support.
Biden: I’m sure innocents have been killed. But I have no confidence in the number that the Palestinians are using.
Omar Rahman: So much of what I’ve seen over the past 14 or 15 months, out there, as I travel in different parts of the world and especially the Middle East, is that people think all these claims from the US, that it’s the champion of human rights and international law and all this stuff is totally bankrupt. Biden essentially allowed Netanyahu’s vengeful, fanatical, ideological, far right government to dictate the response with carte blanche American support for whatever it saw fit to do to Hamas, to Gaza and to the region. And it never took seriously the idea that Netanyahu’s government may have had ambitions or plans that went well beyond the stated goal of defeating Hamas and retrieving the hostages.
Biden: My administration’s support for Israel security is rock solid.
Omar Rahman: I don’t think that Biden intends on undermining international law and destroying the international system, but the willingness to do so in order to protect Israel is thought out and believed or they’re arrogant enough to believe it will have no real effect. Some people do Israel’s bidding, as you know, as a transactional thing, because it’s beneficial to do so in Washington, it’s beneficial for your career. America and Israel must stand together. People that have been in Washington as long as Biden are more conditioned. Their points of view are inculcated on this issue and their actions are reflexive. You know, Biden is a true believer. He’s a self-proclaimed Zionist. The Jewish people are great recorders of their history, and I think Biden thought he could be a part of that, maybe some great historic figure in that long history, as the leader who stood by them after this huge catastrophe and supported Israel to the hilt. And the funny thing is, the Israelis didn’t even want him back after all this. They wanted Trump, and that’s, you know, the great kind of irony and punctuation point on this whole episode.
