Columbia University Alumni Tear Up Diplomas in Protest Over Palestine
April 2, 2025
“”We will continue to rage at this institution until Mahmoud Khalil is free.””
Graduates from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) chant ‘Free Palestine’ and rip up their diplomas in protest against the university, while also calling for authorities to free Mahmoud Khalil.
The protest follows the detention of Mahmoud Khalil, a graduate student of Palestinian background from SIPA.
One of the alumni who participated in the protests stated: “”In renouncing my degree and tearing up my diploma, I say I will never stop talking about Palestine.””
Another protester declared: “”I renounce my degree and I hope that this small act will inspire others to reject Columbia and all the other institutions complicity in the genocide in Gaza.””
DON’T STOP TALKING ABOUT PALESTINE 🇵🇸
