AOAV Exposes UK Government: Military Arms Exported to Israel Despite Official Ban | Action on Armed Violence
May 9, 2025
British companies exported thousands of military items to Israel after the Labour government’s suspension of key arms export licences in September 2024, according to new findings reported by The Guardian. The analysis, based on Israeli import data, raises serious questions about the government’s enforcement of its own export restrictions and the true nature of ongoing UK arms transfers to Israel.
The research, conducted jointly by the Palestinian Youth Movement, Progressive International, and Workers for a Free Palestine, used trade data from the Israeli tax authority to track imports from the UK over the seven months following the partial suspension of arms licences. The Labour government had announced in September that 29 licences would be suspended due to the risk that UK weapons could contribute to serious breaches of international humanitarian law in Gaza. However, approximately 200 licences remained in place, including exemptions for components used in the F-35 fighter jet programme.
