Israel and Hamas have signed the initial phase of a ceasefire, including the release of 2,000 Palestinian prisoners many of them detained without charge.
But peace cannot be declared until the siege ends, the occupation ends, and every Palestinian walks free.

VO: Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan aimed at pausing the ongoing genocide in Palestine’s Gaza. Here are the terms: Hamas will exchange 20 living hostages out of 48 for nearly 2000 Palestinian prisoners, while Israel will pull its troops back to an agreed upon line. A surge of aid will be allowed into the besieged Palestinian territory. For every Israeli captive whose remains are returned. Israel will hand over the remains of 15 deceased Palestinians from Gaza, according to the Trump plan. The Israeli captives will be released in exchange for 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment. Another 1700 Palestinians, including women and children abducted by Israel since October 7th, are also expected to be released. The exchange will take place within 72 hours of the implementation of the agreement. The deal is set to be signed on October 9th. Just days after Gaza marked the second anniversary of Israel’s genocide that has killed at least 67,000 Palestinians, razed the Palestinian territory and unleashed a major humanitarian crisis. Qatar, Egypt, the US and Turkiye have signed as guarantors of the peace deal.
