Diaspora Groups Urge Government to Pass Draft Bill Ensuring Full Voting Rights in Parliamentary Elections
October 12, 2025🇱🇧 Your Voice. Your Vote. Your Right.
In just seven months, Lebanon heads to the polls to elect a new parliament — and the outcome will shape the nation’s future. Remember: in Lebanon’s parliamentary system, real power lies with the 128 elected MPs, not the President or Prime Minister.
But the right of the diaspora to vote for their local candidates is under threat. A proposed law for the 2026 elections would limit over 1 million eligible Lebanese abroad to voting for just six MPs representing entire continents — a system that silences regional representation and weakens diaspora influence.
That’s why 19 Lebanese diaspora organizations have united to send an urgent appeal to the Prime Minister and Cabinet: to restore the constitutional right of non-resident Lebanese to vote where they are registered, abolish the six-seat cap, and reaffirm equality for all citizens.
We call on all Lebanese — at home and abroad — to stand for this cause and defend your democratic rights.
Because Lebanon’s future must belong to its people — not its politicians.
