‘I’m Ashamed to Be Australian Today’: Protester Condemns Government for Welcoming Alleged War Criminal
February 12, 2026
“I’m ashamed to be Australian today.”
Wendy has watched Palestinians being killed for decades long before it was livestreamed, long before it made headlines, long before the world pretended to notice.
She says welcoming an alleged war criminal into Australia is the final straw and that talk of “social cohesion” rings hollow when governments enable violence instead of confronting it.
This isn’t new.
What’s new is that it can no longer be hidden.
Thanks to Palestinian journalists risking their lives, the world can no longer look away.
Silence didn’t protect anyone.
It only allowed it to continue.

English Script:
Wendy: Quite frankly, I’m just ashamed to be Australian today. This is the final straw. We’ve been watching Palestinians being assassinated, murdered day after day, week after week, year after year. And the culmination of this is that we let one of the war criminals into our country. It’s disgraceful the way our government has facilitated this. And Albanese keeps on saying that he’s won social cohesion. There’s no social cohesion in this decision. I signed my first pro-Palestinian, petition back when I was 18. That’s 42 years ago. 42 years ago. This is not new, but unfortunately, the Western world has just never taken an interest in that part of what we term the Middle East. Until now, because it’s live streamed, and we have to thank all those beautiful Palestinian journalists for showing the rest of the world what was really happening.
