Two weeks ago, thousands of Lebanon’s schoolteachers and army
veterans gathered outside Parliament in Beirut to demand fair wages. They say
they came peacefully, asking for their rights, but some were met with
force.
Public sector workers say they never wanted to be in the street.
But after years of inflation, a collapsed currency, and shrinking pay, many say
their salaries and pensions no longer cover food, medicine, or even the cost of
getting to work.
Our reporter Layla Makdisi spoke to teachers and veterans about
their struggles and demands.
