UN Says 550 Killed in Gaza Since Donald Trump Announced Ceasefire
February 22, 2026
WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL DYING IN GAZA?
The United Nations says over 550 people have been killed since Donald Trump declared a “ceasefire.”
Read that again.
Ceasefire.
But bombs still fall.
Strikes still hit.
Families still bury their dead.
If a ceasefire doesn’t stop the killing,
what exactly is it?

The Gaza ceasefire was declared four months ago. So why are people still dying? A number of strikes and attacks and bombardments has really never been complete. Come. The UN estimates more than 550 people have been killed since the US president, Donald Trump, declared an end to the fighting last October. Thousands more have been injured. The Israeli military continues to carry out airstrikes, shelling and shooting against, they say Hamas operatives. The UN says that many of the casualties are women and children. The UN has also condemned dozens of killings carried out by Hamas, mostly in clashes with rival gangs. And the humanitarian situation in the enclave is still dire, with little aid getting in. What does this mean for the US backed peace plan? The US says that it’s moving ahead with phase two, which involves disarmament of Hamas, the deployment of an international stabilization force and reconstruction. I know it’s a little risky to be investing in a place like this, but we need you to come. But there’s little clarity on how any of this will be achieved as the fighting goes on. And now that the Israeli government has announced that they’re going to expand control over Palestinian territory in the West Bank, there are fears that this already fragile ceasefire could collapse. The ceasefire phase two has been announced. Pressure has to be built, but there has to be meaningful progress for people on the ground. Life has to change. Unless that happens, there is a real risk of the entire thing falling back into conflict.
