Senate Armed Services Chair Admits Israel Violating Ceasefire as Lebanon Death Toll Rises
April 15, 2026
“It appears to me that the Israelis have a really long leash to violate international law.”
Senator Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, has publicly stated that Israel’s relentless strikes are “violating the ceasefire.”
But words mean nothing when the blood is still wet on the pavement. When asked point-blank if this campaign of double taps on civilians and Red Cross workers constitutes ethnic cleansing, Reed did what U.S. politicians do best: he cowered. He pivoted to talks in Washington while Netanyahu stood on occupied Lebanese soil vowing to maintain a permanent security belt.
The reality on the ground is a nightmare fueled by U.S. weapons. Since the latest assault began on March 2:
2,089 killed and 6,762 wounded
40,000 housing units turned to rubble.
150 strikes launched in a single 24-hour window.
This isn’t security, it’s a calculated erasure of a nation.
The blood isn’t just on the hands of the soldiers, it’s on every politician who sees the pattern of behavior and chooses to look the other way. 🇱🇧

Julian Andreone: I want to ask you about Lebanon really quickly. There have been more than 2000 deaths, 40,000 structures destroyed. I mean, there have been double taps, more than six reported over the weekend on civilian targets, Red cross. I mean, it violates the cease fire, obviously, the better pattern of sort of ethnic cleansing that we’ve seen in Gaza elsewhere?
Senator Jack Reed: No, what it represents, though, is a violation of the ceasefire, which originally the administration denied. But then they’re beginning now to put appropriate pressure to cease fire all through the Middle East and negotiations will begin with the Lebanese ambassador and the Israeli ambassador here in Washington. So the hope is that this is going to lead to a permanent cessation of hostilities.
Julian Andreone:It appears to me that the Israelis have a really long leash to violate international law. And the terms of the agreements that we set. Why is that, as opposed to other countries where we would enforce a higher standard?
Senator Jack Reed: No, I think this is demonstrated by the outrage of the attacks prompted the administration to say, you must stop and you must negotiate with the Lebanese. And I think that hopefully the administration will understand that that’s the right course of action, and they will be able to keep both parties at the table. And we have a succession of hostilities, not temporary, but long term.
Julian Andreone: Do you recognize a pattern of behavior?
Unknown man: He’s got a live hit right now. We’re just going to try to lock in on that.
Julian Andreone: Okay.
Unknown man: Yeah. Thank you so much.
