Oxford Historian Avi Shlaim Says Zionism Is a Destructive Project

He is confirming what the victims have known for generations: that from day one the goal was never about coexistence. It was a calculated cold-blooded mission to have as few Arabs as possible on the land. This isn’t a theory it is the blueprint for ethnic cleansing that has been running for decades.
The arrogance is sickening but the new data is even worse. Reports from Haaretz now show that a majority of the population actually supports the total expulsion of Palestinians.

Avi Shlaim: Israel is a racist project. The ultimate aim of Zionism was to build a Jewish state on as much of the land of historic Palestine as possible with as few Arabs within its borders as possible. Genocide is not Jewish. Ethnic cleansing is not Jewish. Waging a war on children is not Jewish. To be Jewish means to be on the side of the underdog. To be Jewish means to seek to improve the world rather than to destroy it. It’s called Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. It’s both my craft as a historian and my identity as a Jew that makes me critical of Israel and a supporter of the Palestinian cause. Public opinion has been shifting very radically in support of the Palestinians and in hostility towards Israel over the last two years. I really believe that apartheid in the 21st century is not sustainable. Israel has been able to sustain apartheid since 1967 and it’s been getting worse and worse. Israel has been able to get away with it because its Western allies have given it diplomatic protection. And today you have the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank back and you have the genocide in Gaza. As for Gaza, the aim now is to make Gaza uninhabitable and if possible to depopulate Gaza and take over the territory and rebuild Jewish settlements in Gaza. That’s the aim. Now, some people think that Netanyahu is a prisoner of his coalition partners. I don’t think so. Netanyahu and his government are not accidents. It’s not an accidental government. They embody the mainstream of Israeli society today.
