Yesterday, the civilized world watched as the Israeli military executed a ruthless double-tap strike in southern Lebanon, proving once again that nowhere is safe, not even for those whose job is to save lives. While politicians talk about ceasefires in air-conditioned rooms, the blood of heroes is being spilled in the streets of Majdal Zoun.
Hussein Ghadbouni, Hussein Sati, and Hadi Daher—three rescuers from the state-run Lebanese Civil Defense—didn’t die in a crossfire. They were hunted. After an initial air strike hit a building, these men were sent in to rescue the wounded. While they were performing their humanitarian duty, a second strike hit the exact same spot, burying them under the rubble.
These men were part of a state-run emergency service. They were known to the world, yet they were treated as targets.
