BLACK MUSICIAN BEATEN TO DEATH BY NY CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS
While Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrates historic victories and visits museums for Black History Month, the blood of Robert Brooks is still fresh on the hands of the state. Brooks, a 43-year-old Black musician and father, didn’t die from complications, he was systematically and casually beaten to death by a pack of correctional officers at Marcy Correctional Facility.
Brooks was handcuffed behind his back and sitting on a medical table when he was pummeled in the face, torso, and groin.
He died from asphyxia and internal organ bruising, essentially choking on his own blood after his thyroid cartilage was ripped apart.
Ten guards were indicted, and several have already pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but the system that allowed this remains untouched. For a Mayor who once tweeted #DefundTheNYPD and promised a radical shift in public safety, the question is simple: Where is the action?
We don’t want more visits to museums, we want the end of the slaughterhouse in our correctional facilities.
