The shareholders’ meeting for Barclays Bank in London just turned into a battlefield. Activists from the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), alongside climate protesters, stormed the AGM on Thursday, May 7, 2026, to call out Chairman Nigel Higgins and the bank’s top brass for their blood-stained balance sheets.
While Higgins tried to talk about “peace in the region,” protesters shouted him down, pointing to the cold hard cash Barclays is pumping into the military machine.
New research reveals Barclays provides over £6.1 billion in loans and underwriting, plus over £2 billion in direct shares, to nine major companies supplying the weapons used in the slaughter of Palestinians
Barclays isn’t just a bank; it’s a direct partner. It acts as a “primary dealer” for Israeli government bonds, literally helping the state raise the money it needs to fund its military operations.
One activist shouted, “Everyone here is profiting from a genocide. Shame on you!” The room erupted as flags were unfurled and the chant “Barclays, Barclays, you can’t hide, you’re supporting genocide” echoed through the hall.
