President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, that the crushing financial strain on American families is “not even a little bit” of a factor in his negotiations regarding the war with Iran.
As inflation hits a three-year high and gas prices soar to a national average of $4.50 a gallon, the President has made it clear: your bank account is not his priority.
When asked if the financial situation of Americans motivated him to seek a deal, Trump replied: “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. ‘I don’t think about anybody’. I think about one thing—‘we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon, that’s all’”
This statement comes as April inflation rose to 3.8%, the highest rate in years, and the war’s cost has already climbed to nearly $29 billion.
While Secretary of State Marco Rubio argues that a nuclear Iran would cause even worse long-term economic chaos, millions of Americans are struggling to afford groceries today.
