Surviving Israel’s Dungeons: Activist Thiago Ávila Reveals Alleged Torture Inside Ashkelon Prison
May 14, 2026
The nightmare is over for Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila, but the truth he’s bringing back from Israeli custody is just beginning to shake the world. After being intercepted in international waters by the Israeli Navy while aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, Ávila was held in Ashkelon Prison for 10 days before being deported back to São Paulo on May 11, 2026.
Stepping off the plane, he didn’t just call his detention illegal, he called it a kidnapping and exposed a regime of systemic brutality designed to break those who stand for Palestine.
Ávila told reporters at Guarulhos International Airport that his seizure hundreds of miles from the coast was a serious violation of international law. He was held without charge on secret evidence before finally being expelled.
While Ávila faced severe abuse, he warned that the Palestinian prisoners in nearby cells were experiencing far worse.
hey tried to bury his voice in a dungeon, but he’s returned with a megaphone for the thousands still trapped inside.
THE TRUTH CANNOT BE DEPORTED.
