Israel Breaks Ceasefire Hours After Agreement, Deadly Airstrikes Hit Southern Lebanon
May 18, 2026
Just hours after delegations in Washington agreed to a crucial 45-day extension of the fragile April 16 ceasefire, the Israeli military shattered the truce. A wave of ruthless airstrikes ripped through towns in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, leaving at least seven dead—including innocent children—and at least 15 others heavily injured.
You cannot claim to be working toward stability in Washington while actively slaughtering families in their homes on the same exact day.
In a U.S.-brokered diplomatic push in Washington, Israel and Lebanon formally agreed to extend the cessation of hostilities for another 45 days to give negotiations breathing room until June.
Almost immediately after the announcement, Israeli warplanes targeted multiple southern towns. In Tayr Felsay, a brutal strike killed three people, including a young child. Minutes later, an attack on Tayr Debba killed two more, including another child, while sending 15 injured civilians flooding into overwhelmed local hospitals.
The disregard for human life didn’t stop there. Earlier strikes targeted a Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Committee center in the southern town of Hanuf, killing six people, including three rescue paramedics who were simply trying to save lives.
Around midnight, an Israeli missile slammed directly into a residential apartment on the outskirts of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon. The precision strike killed an Islamic Jihad commander, Wael Abdel Halim, along with his 17-year-old daughter.
A ceasefire is completely meaningless if one side treats it as a green light to keep killing with total impunity.
