Tracy Chamoun Discusses Lebanon, Washington and Regional Politics in Viral Podcast Clip
May 26, 2026
On the 15th of May 2026, the United States announced it had brokered a 45-day ceasefire extension between Israel and Lebanon, calling the talks “highly productive.” By the end of that same day, Israel had issued forced displacement orders for nine villages in South Lebanon and bombed five more.
The ceasefire exists on paper. The demolitions continue on the ground. To close the latest episode of my Reel Talk podcast, I asked former Lebanese Ambassador Tracy Chamoun, a diplomat, a former presidential candidate, and a woman who has lived through Lebanon’s civil war, the 2020 Beirut port explosion, and the 2024 pager attack, one final question. If she could say one thing directly to the people in Washington who are signing these extensions while the bombs keep falling in South Lebanon, what would it be? She didn’t hesitate.
“No double standards!”
