Israel Accused of Targeting Lebanon’s Largest Dam Amid Escalating Conflict
May 27, 2026
BEKAA VALLEY, LEBANON — Geopolitical tensions have hit a critical flashpoint after Israeli warplanes executed multiple airstrikes immediately adjacent to the Qaraoun Dam, which is Lebanon’s largest and most vital water infrastructure.
The targeted strikes hit the perimeter of the dam and blocked a main road nearby, sending shockwaves through the region. Holding an estimated 220 million cubic meters of water, the Qaraoun Dam is the cornerstone of Lebanon’s water security, agricultural irrigation, and power grid. The Litani River Authority warned that any structural breach or direct hit could trigger a catastrophic, large-scale humanitarian and environmental flood disaster downstream.
In an official statement, the Authority confirmed that while the explosions scattered heavy debris and rocked the area, the core structure of the dam and its facilities remain undamaged. Technical and engineering teams have been deployed to conduct rigorous safety assessments as the military campaign continues to edge dangerously close to red-line infrastructure.
This is a clear violation of International law!
This must not be ignored, this must be investigated and punish Israel for this violation.
