Dozens Reported Killed as Israel Expands Lebanon Air and Ground Offensive
May 28, 2026
BEIRUT & TEL AVIV — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a deeper, more aggressive military campaign in Lebanon as ground operations push further north, raising fears of a protracted regional conflict.
According to reporting by Haaretz journalist Yaniv Kubovich and Reuters, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have intensified their air and ground campaign, citing a necessity to neutralize what they describe as a growing pattern of explosive drone attacks launched by Hezbollah. The operations have heavily targeted the southern border region and the Beqaa Valley, striking areas that the Israeli military claims house critical infrastructure and launch sites.
The human toll of the widening campaign continues to mount sharply. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that at least 31 people were killed in Israeli strikes over a 24-hour period. Rescue workers and hospital staff are facing severe obstacles as they conduct ongoing recovery operations amid continuous cross-border fire, pulling casualties from collapsed buildings and trying to manage a surge of displaced civilians fleeing the combat zones.
