Israeli Shelling Kills Serbian UN Peacekeeper and Injures Two Others in Southern Lebanon
June 6, 2026
A UN peacekeeper is dead.
Two others are injured.
And once again, Lebanon has become the site of another tragedy involving international forces meant to help preserve stability along one of the world’s most volatile borders.
According to UNIFIL, a Serbian peacekeeper was killed and two others were wounded after mortar shells struck near Marjayoun in southern Lebanon.
These were not combatants.
They were peacekeepers.
Men and women deployed far from home to help prevent conflict, protect civilians and maintain stability in a region that has endured far too much war.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of the peacekeeper who lost his life in service.
No peacekeeper should die trying to keep the peace.

In the same incident, wet had two injured peacekeepers. The injured peacekeepers are receiving treatment in one of the UNIFIL medical facilities. The critically injured peacekeeper was taken to a hospital to Beirut where he succumbed to his injuries. Deliberate attacks on peacekeepers is a violation of international law and also resolution 1701 and this may amount to war crimes. UNIFIL has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic event. And we also call on national authorities in Lebanon to find and persecute those responsible in this tragic event.
