UN Worker Confronts McGill University Over $7 Million Investment in Companies Linked to Israeli Military
June 7, 2026
“They’re redoing the same thing in Lebanon.”
Those were the words of a UN worker who confronted McGill University security and Montreal police during a protest over the university’s investments in companies linked to Israel’s military operations.
His message was simple:
What is happening should not be ignored.
As students and activists continue to demand divestment, pressure is growing on institutions around the world to explain why money connected to education is being invested in companies accused of profiting from war.
For the protesters, this is not an abstract political debate.
It is about accountability.
It is about whether universities can claim to stand for human rights while maintaining financial ties to companies connected to military campaigns that have devastated Gaza and caused widespread destruction in Lebanon.
Because for many students and activists, neutrality is no longer enough.
And silence is no longer acceptable.

People are trying to protest on the right side of history. Take them down. Turn them into the criminals.
Okay ma’am, we’ll take it.
That’s assault.
How?
How is it assault?
Call the police. There’s been assault.
Why am I being arrested? I am not resisting.
He needs to clean it up.
I’m standing in a public space.
It doesn’t doesn’t matter, because he needs to clean this property. So he needs to use the public place to clean his property. He has a right to clean.
I am not standing on his wall.
Earning fuckin blood money. The money of Mcgill goes to arms companies and goes to Israel.
You can talk to me. I’m from the United Nations. I just came back from Lebanon two weeks ago because nobody did anything in Gaza. They’re redoing the same thing in Lebanon. There’s not a village standing. 3000 people dead in one month. Open your eyes, goddamn it. Where’s your morality? You believe in anything or just your stomach? Do you believe in anything? Three colleagues of mine are dead in Gaza trying to help people. I’m a humanitarian as well. And this is the support we get from our government. We don’t give a shit. People are trying to protest on the right side of history. Take them down.
Turn them into the criminals. What a disgrace.
You guys don’t have to work here, you know. You can choose to quit, you can choose to stand up. You can choose another job. You don’t have to be here if you don’t want to uphold a fucking genocidal institution
Listen, we understand that you have to provide for your families, but there’s other ways to get money in this world than supporting a genocidal institution.
