Iran and U.S. Sign Memorandum to End War as Israel Says Lebanon Is Excluded
June 15, 2026
The United States and Iran have announced a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which much of the world’s energy supply passes. The agreement would pause military operations and open the door to wider negotiations on regional stability.
But one major obstacle remains.
While the proposed framework reportedly includes an end to hostilities across multiple fronts, Israel has not confirmed that it will abide by provisions requiring a withdrawal from Lebanese territory, raising fresh questions about whether peace can hold if Lebanon remains excluded from the final outcome.
For many Lebanese, the question is simple:
What kind of peace agreement leaves occupation unresolved?
After months of destruction, displacement and loss, people across the region are desperate for an end to the violence.
But lasting peace cannot be built on selective commitments.
If the war is truly ending, then accountability, sovereignty and the rights of those affected cannot be treated as optional.
The world may be celebrating a diplomatic breakthrough.
Lebanon is still waiting to see whether it will be included in it. Source: @aljazeeraenglish
