Stanford graduates refused to celebrate as usual.
During a commencement address by Google’s CEO, students walked out in protest, accusing the tech giant of helping power systems of surveillance, warfare and repression.
Under the banner “No Tech for Genocide Enablers,” protesters highlighted Google’s reported contracts with the Israeli military and other government agencies, arguing that technology companies cannot claim neutrality while their products are used in conflicts that devastate civilian populations.
For these students, graduation was not just a ceremony.
