Paramount and Warner Bros. Merger Faces Major Lawsuit From 11 U.S. States
July 15, 2026
VICTORY FOR FREE SPEECH! They told us this merger was inevitable. We proved them wrong.
The massive corporate merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. just hit a major wall, and it’s because we pushed back. Eleven states have officially joined the legal action to block this media monopoly, and it is a massive win for independent voices everywhere.
Let’s be real about what’s at stake here. When a handful of giant corporations own everything you watch, read, and listen to, “free speech” becomes an illusion.

Did you see this? Did you see the news? State attorneys general across the country just took action against a proposed merger between Paramount, Sky dance and Warner Brothers Discovery, which I call the Para-Bros Merger. Paramount has been trying to reach this deal for months, but now a coalition of states is moving to block it. This is huge. A deal everyone said was inevitable just hit a wall because people pushed back flat. Since April, thousands of voices across film, entertainment, journalism and the pro-democracy movement joined the fight and called on their state AGs to act. And that’s exactly what happened. They’ve shown up and protest in town halls all around the country because people pushed, they pushed back, they pushed back against the inevitable like the Knicks. And the third game coming back from devastation. Today as a result of that pressure. This is a first step toward stopping this terrible deal. If it went ahead, this merger between Paramount, Warner Brothers would be a disaster for free speech, independent journalism, creative competition, film, documentaries, TV. The amount of corporate debt they’d take on would mean countless layoffs, and news organizations would be so deep in the hole that they couldn’t afford to speak truth to power anymore. We’ve all witnessed the censorship at CBS, and we cannot, under any circumstances hand David Ellison, the keys to CNN. To every single AG that stood up. To everyone who has shown up in this fight already. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you. Thank you to everyone. We welcome this news. We have momentum and we’re in it to win it guys. But nothing is final. To see this through, we must keep the pressure on. And that’s up to us. So thank you AGS. And to find more ways to help us take action or to Blockthemerger.com.
