What Is the Value of Journalism? Why Truth Matters Beyond Keeping the Public Informed
July 20, 2026
Without independent verification, the concept of accountability ceases to exist.
The growing pressure on global journalism is not a series of isolated challenges—it is a structural crisis. As highlighted by the latest @unesco research, the simultaneous rise of algorithmic disinformation, direct state censorship, and declining financial support for public interest media threatens the core fabric of global justice.
For decades, independent reporters have served as the essential mechanism for exposing corruption and upholding universal humanitarian standards. When these voices are suppressed or replaced by corporate-controlled monopolies, the public loses its primary tool for checking institutional power.
We must actively defend the freedom, safety, and economic viability of independent media. Universal rights cannot survive in a vacuum of curated propaganda.
The truth belongs to the people. ✊
