In a troubling development on the ground, the Israeli military has begun dividing up Southern Lebanon using military checkpoints, perimeter flags, and severe movement restrictions—replicating systems long used in the occupied West Bank.
An AJ+ report details how international journalists attempting to document the destruction in Naqoura were turned back by Israeli soldiers stationed inside commandeered Lebanese homes, despite having all required permits.
The military has established fortified checkpoints and raised Israeli flags deep inside sovereign Lebanese territory in Naqoura.
Journalists were forced to wait five hours under the sun alongside UNIFIL forces before being denied entry, making independent reporting nearly impossible.
Israel is drawing a new “Yellow Line” buffer zone inside Lebanese land mirroring the lethal demarcation lines established inside Gaza, where civilians face deadly fire upon approach.
No country should have to accept foreign military checkpoints on its own soil.

The Israeli army has set up two checkpoints, inside, here in this area, the Naqoura area and has raised big Israeli flags. So when we reached the checkpoint, Israeli soldiers stationed inside the Lebanese house told us over a speaker to go back.
Nada was among a group of 10 international journalists trying to reach a destroyed areas in southern Lebanon.
But she said they were denied entry at a checkpoint in Naqoura despite having the required permissions.
We waited five hours under the sun to coordinate with UNIFIL and try to fix the issue. But we could not. So we just had to go back.
Israel’s restrictions have made it almost impossible for journalists to report on its violations there.
Israel even created a “yellow line” – a boundary that marks Israeli controlled areas in Lebanon.
It’s similar to the one Israel established in Gaza, where Palestinians have been shot and killed for approaching the “yellow line boundary”
