How Rwanda Reduced Poverty and Child Mortality Under Female Leadership
August 2, 2026
What happens when women run a country for 11 years straight?
MIRACLES
In Rwanda, women make up over 60% of lawmakers and the results speak for themselves. After more than a decade of female-majority leadership, the nation has completely transformed its society and economy.
National poverty rates plummeted from nearly 60% down to roughly 38%.
Almost everyone is covered, with over 90% of the population enrolled in community-based and private insurance schemes.
Massive public investments reduced child mortality by an astounding 70%.
Boys and girls are now enrolling in school at the exact same rate.
When leadership shifts public spending toward better schools, rural clinics, and social programs, the entire country thrives. Plus, young people are growing up seeing women in power as the standard, not the exception.
