During a live appearance on the mainstream French literary show La Grande Librairie (France Télévisions) to promote her new book Viser juste, celebrated French actress and activist Adèle Haenel shattered national broadcasting taboos, declaring live on air:
“The State of Israel is committing a genocide in Palestine and France is complicit. Do not accept the unacceptable. So sanction Israel and free Palestine.”
Knowing her words would act like “axe blows,” Haenel deliberately spoke the reality everyone in power knows but is terrified to name. And how did French state television react? By panicking, pulling the entire episode replay off their website, and attempting to memory-hole her live testimony.
They can censor the footage, but the message is already out.
