Thailand Investigates Alleged Israeli-Linked Land Ownership and Growing Business Influence

THAILAND IS INVESTIGATING ILLEGAL LAND OWNERSHIP NETWORKS LINKED TO ISRAELI NATIONALS.
Thai authorities have opened a widening investigation into more than 40 companies allegedly using Thai citizens as “nominees” to illegally bypass foreign land ownership laws, some of it uncovered after irregularities were found at a Jewish cemetery whose burial license had expired.
One Israeli businessman in Pattaya is accused of controlling 14 local companies worth billions of baht in real estate this way.
Deputy Interior Minister Phonphir Suwannachawi has now ordered checks on nearly 100 million baht in land purchases in Thailand’s southern provinces too.
Under Thai law, foreign nationals generally can’t hold more than 49% of a company or own land directly using local citizens as fronts to get around that is illegal, regardless of who’s doing it.
This is a legal accountability story, not a story about any single community. Thai officials have stated Israelis are not being singled out. What matters is enforcing the law equally no matter whose name is on the paperwork.
