Susan Sarandon. Hannah Einbinder — Jewish, and yelling “Free Palestine! Get Netanyahu out of New York!” as police walked her away. Chelsea Manning. Elliot Page. NYC Councilmember Chi Ossé. Congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier. All taken into custody outside the UN as Netanyahu addressed the General Assembly.
About 200 protesters, led by Jewish Voice for Peace, wore matching shirts reading “Fund people not bombs.” They sat down in the street and chanted ”We charged you with genocide, Netanyahu you can’t hide” until NYPD loaded them onto buses. Around 100 arrests total.
Even a rabbi from Neturei Karta showed up to say Netanyahu is “using our religion, our identity, to justify all these crimes” and thanked Mayor Mamdani for his courage in calling for Netanyahu’s arrest.
This wasn’t a scattered protest. It was actors, elected officials, whistleblowers, and rabbis, standing shoulder to shoulder, willing to get handcuffed rather than stay silent.
