UAE Accused of Fueling Instability Across Africa Through Proxy Forces and Arms Networks
September 27, 2026
THE UAE IS QUIETLY BEHIND SOME OF AFRICA’S WORST WARS RIGHT NOW.
Sudan: the UAE is the RSF’s most important military, logistical and financial backer — a militia the UN accuses of genocide in Darfur. Their gold flows straight to Dubai. Their weapons are Emirati.
Libya: the UAE arms Khalifa Haftar’s forces, who then funnel RSF weapons and mercenaries across the border, turning one country’s war into two nations’ collapse.
Chad and Ethiopia get pulled into Sudan’s war through their own UAE ties. Somalia gets destabilized through UAE military backing of secessionist Somaliland. Algeria cut diplomatic relations entirely over Emirati support for separatists. A coup attempt in Niger. A $50 million payout that reportedly reached an al-Qaeda-linked group tied to the killing of Mali’s defence minister. Gold smuggled out of Congo, financing armed groups on the way.
This is a pattern, not a coincidence: back a militia, deny direct involvement, let plausible deniability do the rest while an entire continent absorbs the fallout.
That’s why African lawmakers are now calling to expel the UAE from African forums entirely. Some allies cost more than they’re worth.
