ISRAELI AMBASSADOR CALLS CHILDREN’S PEACE DRAWINGS “ANTISEMITIC.” THE DRAWING SAID “FREE PALESTINE.”
A UN “Peace Flags” exhibit — fabric quilts made by children and community groups from around the world, meant to represent messages of peace included panels reading “Free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” alongside a watermelon drawn in the shape of historic Palestine.
Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon called it “a disgrace,” “shameful,” and “antisemitic,” and demanded it be torn down. The UN complied and removed it.
Children expressing hope for Palestinian freedom isn’t hate speech. It’s exactly what a “world peace” exhibit is supposed to include — a perspective, among many, from people living the reality of occupation. Calling a child’s drawing “antisemitic” doesn’t protect anyone. It just proves how far the goalposts have moved: even a crayon drawing of liberation gets treated as a threat.
If children drawing “free” is what makes a government uncomfortable, that discomfort is the real story.

سفير إسرائيل يصف رسومات أطفال تدعو للسلام بأنها “معادية للسامية”؛ إذ حملت إحدى الرسومات عبارة “فلسطين حرة”.
تضمن معرض “أعلام السلام” التابع للأمم المتحدة — وهو عبارة عن أعمال فنية قماشية (لحف) صنعها أطفال ومجموعات مجتمعية من جميع أنحاء العالم بهدف نقل رسائل سلام — لوحات كُتب عليها “فلسطين حرة” و”من النهر إلى البحر، ستتحرر فلسطين”، إلى جانب رسم لثمرة البطيخ اتخذ شكل خريطة فلسطين التاريخية.
وقد وصف داني دانون، سفير إسرائيل لدى الأمم المتحدة، هذا العمل بأنه “وصمة عار” و”أمر مخزٍ” و”معادٍ للسامية”، وطالب بإزالته؛ وهو ما استجابت له الأمم المتحدة بالفعل وقامت بإزالة المعروضات.
إن تعبير الأطفال عن أملهم في حرية فلسطين لا يُعد خطاب كراهية؛ بل هو بالضبط ما يُفترض أن يتضمنه معرض يهدف إلى “السلام العالمي”: وجهة نظر — من بين وجهات نظر عديدة — لأشخاص يعيشون واقع الاحتلال. إن وصف رسم لطفل بأنه “معادٍ للسامية” لا يحمي أحداً، بل يثبت فقط مدى تغير المعايير؛ إذ أصبح حتى الرسم البسيط بأقلام التلوين الذي يصور التحرر يُعامل وكأنه تهديد.
إذا كان مجرد رسم الأطفال لكلمة “حرية” يسبب الانزعاج لحكومة ما، فإن هذا الانزعاج بحد ذاته هو جوهر القصة الحقيقية.

Israeli UN ambassador: You had the main entrance of the United Nations, where thousands of people are passing every day, the UN decided to put on an exhibition about world peace. Look at the drawings of children from all around the world. Nothing about Israel. Look what they have. They don’t recognize Israel. They promote hate in those drawings. That is shameful. This is just part of the hypocrisy of the United Nations. I demand that the UN would remove the exhibit immediately. And it will stop with the hypocrisy against Israel.
