Joseph Gordon-Levitt Urges Voters to Back Candidates Supporting Strong AI Regulation
October 12, 2026
“WE ARE NOT F***ED YET… BUT WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.”
ACTOR JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT TELLS TIME100 AI DINNER TO ONLY VOTE FOR CANDIDATES WHO SUPPORT STRONG AI REGULATION.
He gave the toast at a dinner full of the people building the technology, and he didn’t flatter them. His argument was simple: cars are safe because car companies have to operate to code. Houses are safe because builders follow laws. AI companies, he said, are operating in a way that “the law should be shutting them down” until they can prove their products are safe.
Then he turned on the politicians. Lawmakers have been “slow” and “timid,” he said, and taking money from the Big Tech lobby, “some of the guys in this room.” AI companies, allies and executives spent at least $83 million on federal elections in 2025, according to the New York Times, and they’re set to spend more this year.
His answer isn’t despair. It’s a ballot. Find out where your candidates stand on AI, and if they stand for “anything less than strong regulation now,” don’t vote for them.
The warnings are real. So is the midterm. Time to mobilize.

They’re saying the quiet part out loud here. The motivation is natalism forcing women to have more children than they otherwise would if they were given the choice. There are a lot of terrifying underlying messages in these comments, even from the very start describing divorce as a tragedy where when you actually look at the statistics, the right to divorce massively decreased the homicide rate for women in this country because they’re able to leave scary and abusive situations. So while lawmakers at the state level are trying to make it harder for women to get divorces, their weird billionaire buddies are trying to dose women with unregulated oxytocin to force them to stay in love with their husbands. The thing that they don’t say out loud, but it is implied multiple times in this conversation, is that people should be dosing women with this stuff unknowingly. The most disturbing part of the whole video is the reaction of the hosts in the audience as they giggle along with these suggestions. It’s not a joke. They are completely serious. These are very powerful people who can move capital and move lawmakers in a direction that really makes this our reality.
