Azerbaijan’s Deal With Israel Raises Questions as Regional Tensions Grow
October 20, 2026
On October 12, Muslim schoolgirls in Azerbaijan were locked out of school for wearing the hijab. Two days later, Israeli President Isaac Herzog was in Baku meeting President Ilham Aliyev.
The timing may be a coincidence. But One Path Network says it points to a bigger story.
Azerbaijan is overwhelmingly Muslim, mostly Shia, and sits on Iran’s doorstep. Its secular government has spent years limiting Iranian religious influence. Meanwhile, according to the post, nearly half of Israel’s imported oil comes from Azerbaijan, even during the war in Gaza. In return, Israel has supplied billions of dollars in drones, missiles and advanced weapons that helped Azerbaijan in its wars with Armenia.
The ban has also strained Baku’s ties with Türkiye, its closest ally. Turkish officials called it unacceptable, and some in Erdoğan’s party say it serves Israeli interests. Aliyev’s answer, in short: don’t interfere with our lifestyle.
Israeli analysts deny any link to the ban.
Is this really about secularism, or is a Muslim nation putting its alliances above the faith of its own daughters?
Girls are being turned away from school while the oil flows and the weapons arrive. Someone should have to answer for that.
Expose them.

The timing is striking. October 12th Muslim schoolgirls in Azerbaijan were locked out of school for wearing the hijab. Just two days later, Israeli President Isaac Herzog met Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. Coincidence? Perhaps. But follow the money, the weapons and the borders. And a very different picture appears. Azerbaijan is overwhelmingly Muslim, with a predominantly Shia population, and it sits right on Iran’s doorstep. For years as it began secular government has sought to limit Iran’s religious influence. So at home, Islamic identity squeezed. Abroad, the embrace of Israel only grows tighter, and this relationship runs deep. Oil, weapons and shared strategic interests. Half of Israel’s imported oil comes from Azerbaijan. Even during the genocide in Gaza. In return, Israel has supplied Azerbaijan with billions of dollars in military equipment, drones, missiles, advanced weapons systems. Israeli weapons helped Azerbaijan win its war with Armenia in 2016, 2020 and 2023. And then there’s another important player Turkey. Turkey. Azerbaijan’s closest ally, called the hijab ban unacceptable. Some in Erdogan’s party says it serves Israeli interests. Aliyev responds. Don’t interfere with our lifestyle. So what’s driving Azerbaijan’s decisions? Keeping Iran out, keeping Turkey at arm’s length, and strengthening partnership with Israel and the United States. Although Israeli analysts deny any link to the hijab ban, ask yourself, is this really about secularism? Or is a muslim nation trading its daughters faith for its friends in Tel Aviv and Washington?
