Netanyahu Claims U.S. and Lebanon Accepted Israel’s Security Zone Under New Agreement
June 30, 2026
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, claimed that both the United States and Lebanon recognize Israel’s so-called “security zone” inside Lebanese territory under an agreement reached a day earlier.
Presenting a map, Netanyahu said Israel would eventually transfer two designated “pilot zones” to the Lebanese Army as part of the arrangement.
A foreign military presence inside Lebanese territory is still an occupation, regardless of what it is called.
Let’s call this what it actually is: a continuation of the occupation under a new, sanitized name.

Benjamin Netanyahu: I’ll show it to you on the map. The black is our international border with Lebanon. The yellow one is the security line, or rather, the security zone. Here is a small addition we made in recent weeks, where with the pilot areas we’re talking about. The first one is hare, completely outside the security zone. And the second an addition beyond our security zone, which the IDF says is not operationally essential, and from which we will withdraw. There are the two pilot areas. This means Israel remains in the yellow security zone that protect us. And that’s a huge achievement. Huge.
