Lavon Affair Explained: Israel’s 1954 Failed False Flag Operation Against Egypt
July 7, 2026
In July 1954, Israel’s military intelligence directorate (Aman) launched Operation Susannah—a covert operation in Egypt that later became known as the Lavon Affair. Israeli spymasters recruited local Egyptian Jews into a secret sleeper cell (Unit 131) tasked with planting homemade chemical firebombs inside Western-owned civilian targets, including American educational libraries, British post offices, and crowded metropolitan cinemas in Cairo and Alexandria.
When the plot blew up in their faces, Israeli leadership immediately imposed strict military press censorship to keep their own public completely in the dark, leading citizens to falsely believe the captured agents were innocent. History matters.
