TURKIYE TO HOST HAMAS LEADER VOWS TO DEFEND THE “RESISTANCE GROUP”
April 18, 2024Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today announced he would host Ismail Haniyeh, the Qatar-based leader of Hamas, in Turkey this weekend.
“The leader of the Palestinian cause will be my guest this weekend,” Erdogan, an outspoken critic of Israel’s invasion of Gaza, said.
“Even if only I, Tayyip Erdogan, remain, I will continue as long as God gives me my life, to defend the Palestinian struggle and to be the voice of the oppressed Palestinian people,” he said, calling Hamas a “resistance group » ».
This comes amidst Turkiye’s increased pressure and criticism of Israel and the sanctions they put on Israel just this month.
Last week, Haniyeh’s three sons and four of his grandchildren were executed in a targeted air strike by Israel whilist visiting relatives in Gaza in celebration of the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
