Andrew Charlton: Australia cannot stand idly by. Lebanon is a nation already scarred by decades of economic hardship, and now it’s teetering on the brink. We must make sure that Lebanon does not become the next Gaza. The Lebanese people, one of the great migratory groups of the world, they’ve traveled all over the world, settled all over the world, and everywhere they go, they’re builders, and I mean that both metaphorically and literally. Well, now is the time for the international community to return that favor. The Albanese government unequivocally calls for a ceasefire, full stop. I’ll say that again. The Albanese government unequivocally calls for a ceasefire, and we call on the international community to unite in demanding an end to hostilities. The violence must stop. Dialog must replace destruction. Peace must be the priority. I want to finish with a message to the Lebanese community in Australia. We hear your anguish. We share your grief, your resilience inspires us and your calls for peace to strengthen our resolve. Together, we will continue to demand justice and compassion and continue to demand an enduring peace in the land you call home. This is not just Lebanon’s fight. It’s everyone’s fight. It’s a fight for humanity, for the values we hold dear, and for the belief that every life matters. Let us ensure that Lebanon does not become the next Gaza.
