Wong Warns Israel to Abide by Intl Law
November 13, 2023Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, is finally showing she has a conscience and is using stronger language regarding Israel by cautioning the Israeli Government that as a self-prounounced Democratic country, it must abide by International Humanitarian Law in its alledged “self-defence” strategies following the Oct 7 Hamas attacks.
It is something but still not enough. AGAIN we ask, HOW MANY PALESTIANS MUST DIE BEFORE WORLD LEADERS FORCE ISRAEL TO CEASEFIRE?

(Penny) How Israel defends itself matters. And when we affirm Israel’s right to defend itself, what we have also saying is Israel must comply and observe international humanitarian law.
00:00:14:02 – 00:00:35:07
(Penny) Now, we know Hamas is a terrorist organization. It’s demonstrated that it has no respect for international law. But Australia is a democracy and so too is Israel. And the standards that we seek and accept are higher. And international humanitarian law is very clear about the principles that need to be applied by Israel. They are distinction, they are precaution and they are proportionality.
00:00:35:08 – 00:00:45:24
(Penny) We have seen a harrowing number of civilians, including children, killed. You know, this has to end and we are particularly concerned with what is happening with medical facilities.
00:00:45:24 – 00:00:51:04
(Tv host) Israel says that’s where Gaza, where Hamas is hiding in Gaza in these hospitals.
00:00:51:07 – 00:01:13:20
(Penny) They do burrow in civilian infrastructure. We understand that. But that does not obviate the requirement to observe international law. And I think the fact is many friends of Israel around the world and in Australia would be saying, you know, we want civilians, hospitals to be protected.
