EX-Google EMPLOYEES EXPOSE TECHNOLOGY BREACHES KILLING PALESTINIANS
April 27, 2024Two ex-Google employees, Ray Westrick and Gabriel Schubiner, speak out after Google FIRED THEM for protesting against Project Nimbus.
Project Nimbus is a $1.2bn contract to provide cloud services for the Israeli military and government. This technology allows for further surveillance of and unlawful data collection on Palestinians, and facilitates expansion of Israel’s illegal settlements on Palestinian land. Workers from Google and Amazon have been protesting against this project since it was established in 2021! However, with Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, it sparked an upsurge in protests, including those which Westrick and Schubiner joined.
“It is impossible to feel excited and energised to work when you know your company is providing the Israeli government products that are helping it commit atrocities in Palestine,” said, Tina Vachovsky, a staff software engineer at Google.
“Data for the Israeli governments, of course, is likely to extend to the Israeli [army]. So it’s a project that marks and sort of highlights the direct connections that big technology companies in the United States have, not only to the so-called military-industrial complex, but to directly aiding and abetting the Israeli government,” said Ramesh Srinivasan, professor at the University of California.
These workers MUST BE SUPPORTED AND APPLAUDED FOR THEIR COURAGE! They took a stand against one of the most POWERFUL CORPORATIONS for supporting genocide and were FIRED in return.

Ray Wistreck: I’m at the office of Thomas Kurian, the Google Cloud CEO, to protest Project Nimbus, which is a $1.2 billion contract with the Israeli government and military between Google and Amazon. We also were demanding the protection of our co-workers, especially our Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim co-workers who have been consistently retaliated against, harassed and doxed for speaking out about Project Nimbus and the humanity of Palestinians.
Gabriel Choppins: Project Nimbus was signed in May of 2021 while bombs are being dropped in Gaza, while Palestinians were being evicted from Sheikh Jarrah and beaten at Al-Aqsa Mosque. That was really the point when we found out about Project Nimbus. We’ve known for a long time that this project was directly targeted at the military. It’s been reported in the press that Google is giving trainings directly to the IOF. We know that Google gave trainings directly to the Mossad. I’ve known for a long time that this project was directed and targeted at the Israeli military, but it was only recently through this last contract that Google signed directly with the IOF that we recognized that Google was really doubling down, that this contract is directly intended to facilitate military use. And we know that Google was chosen over other companies because of the advanced AI technology that they are able to offer. Given that we’ve learned how the IMF is using AI in this war, we really see this as like a really critical campaign for Palestinian liberation.
