TURKEY BOLDENS STANCE AGAINST ISRAEL JOINS SOUTH AFRICAN CASE AT ICJ
May 3, 2024Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan this week said that Turkey would join in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
“Upon completion of the legal text of our work, we will submit the declaration of official intervention before the ICJ with the objective of implementing this political decision,” Fidan said in a joint press conference with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Ankara.
“We hope that with this step, the proceedings at the International Court of Justice will move in the right direction,” Fidan said.
South Africa filed a case at the ICJ accusing Israel of breaching the Genocide Convention with its war on Gaza.
Expert analysis by CEO of Foundations for Defense Democracies, Mark Dubowitz, explained that: “Since the October 7 Hamas atrocities, Turkey and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, have unceasingly demonized Israel, comparing its leaders to the Nazis and feting Hamas terrorists with red carpet welcomes. So, we shouldn’t be surprised by Turkey’s turn to lawfare in its bid to weaken Israel’s security and question Israel’s right to self-defense. The Biden administration and Congress cannot allow this decision by Turkey’s rulers to go unchallenged.”
THIS IS AN IMPRESSIVE MOVE BY ERDOGAN WHO ALSO KNOWS HIS POLITICAL LIVELIHOOD HANGS ON HIS SUPPORT FOR PALESTINE BECAUSE HIS PEOPLE DEMAND JUSTICE FOR GAZA!
